cherry picking

Beware of cherry picking and bias by omission.

Cherry picking is a type of media bias where journalists only tell one part of a story. Cherry picking prevents readers from getting the whole story, instead allowing them to only get one side which will typically support that journal's political affiliation.

For example, the headline “Bernie Sanders: Yes, the middle class will pay more taxes" from CNN makes it seem as though Sanders is just trying to raise taxes without consequence, when in reality Sanders' tax plan would in fact raise taxes on the middle class but because of his intention to employ universal healthcare the tax hike would still be lower than what most Americans are typically paying for healthcare coverage.
